A foundational Creative Play Class using the GNOME methodology of introductions, a brief mindfulness and meditation practice, creative play exercises, inward-focused creative time, and optional sharing with group reflection. We will be exploring our creative selves in the 'present moment' with the 8 Studio Habits of Mind from Harvard's research program Project Zero. ~ Please prepare yourself for class with the following: 1). Set up your computer or smart phone device with the Zoom App downloaded, and be in a physical environment with the least amount of distractions from other people, pets, and noises. It is also nice to have some space to move and still see the screen if possible. 2). Bring a writing tool, notebook or paper, and any other materials you enjoy! (e.g., painting supplies, scissors, scraps of paper, found objects,... even instruments!) 3). Try to arrive to class 5 minutes early to sign in before the instructor enters the class in order to settle yourself and begin the quiet intro journaling exercise. Emily Hall, founder of Studio Gnome, will be teaching this class. She has a masters in art education from Virginia Commonwealth University and teaches public school art to 6-12 graders during the school year. Emily is interested in the interrelationship of mindful reflection and creativity for nurturing one's own self growth and joyful life fulfillment.
